Why strength training is awesome

Weight lifting and other types of strength training have been a ‘man thing’ for far too long. We don’t have to be scared to get bulky ladies! Strength training is great for women and here are our top reasons.

– You get strong! Strength is just really helpful in everyday life and being strong makes me feel fit and like I’m tough, in the best way.

– Strength training increases your muscle mass, which in turn increases the amount of calories you burn even when you’re chilling on the couch. That means burning fat without endless cardio sessions! Cardio burns a lot of calories, but this will not only burn fat as with strength training, but most probably also muscle mass.

– Strength training will make you look toned. Since women have different hormones than men, we won’t get bulky when we lift weights. Instead, it helps to give you a flatter and strong stomach and more defined legs, arms and shoulders.

– Strength training is so much fun. Have you ever tried a bootcamp? Or CrossFit? We at #FITGIRLCODE love it! I was scared to try it at first, but I’m happy I did. I always feel so energized afterwards!

– You’ll feel like a real badass! Especially with one of our #FITGIRLCODE bags while rocking the gym! Get it in our webshop!

    Hi Annegeke,
I am kind of lost for inspiration. Do you have tips for a total body weight lifting routine that I could try out? Or can you recommend websites that offer various ideas for strength workout routines?

    Thanks a lot. Marthe

      Hi Marthe!
If you’re a gym member there might be strength training classes to join. Did you ever try CrossFit? This isn’t offered in every gym, but it might be worth it to find a place where you can try this once. Strength training in the gym put aside, I really love the Kayla Itsines workouts. You can buy her guide or look for some free routines on her website. I also really love the workouts that FitnessBlender offers for free on YouToube, maybe you can check them out too 🙂 Hope this helps! X

I have been Kettlebell training for some time now. I was a bit nervous when I 1st started, but after months and months of training I am achieving my fitness goals. I’m toned, strong and the healthiest I’ve ever been. I always hear the “bulky” comments, when I mention my fitness routine. But with a clean diet and consistency strength training has become a passion, without becoming bulky!

That is awesome! Keep up the great work!

Lately, my healthy lifestyle keeps improving and I’m very happy with that achievement! I would love to start strength training but I honestly just have no idea how to start. When I go to the gym I usually only to cardio, secretly a little bit afraid of the big guys at the strength zone. Do you have got any tips of exercises I could start with? It would help me a lot!
    Thanks so much,

    • Annegeke

      Hi Rosa!
Thats awesome! Haha I get what you mean, Im scared of the big guys too. You could ask someone who works at your gym to show you around, they can be very helpful! You can try all kinds of different machines or go and get a mat, steps and some weights and do a full body workout without using any machines. Check out Kayla Itsines for some great workouts or check all the fitgirlcode challenges for inspiration. Hope this helps. Good luck!! X
